Botulinum toxin(BTX)
Let's fight your wrinkles together.
What is BTX and how does it work?
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin protein and has been known since 1820. In aesthetic medicine, it relaxes the muscle, which causes it to smooth out wrinkles in the skin, or if they are not yet too deep, it even makes them disappear altogether. It works by blocking the release of a chemical, acetylcholine, which is responsible for muscle contraction. This leads to a temporary and gradual reversible paralysis.
Due to the fact that our mimic muscles are constantly active, wrinkles will dig into the overlying skin over the course of our lives. Such as the smile lines at the corners of the eyes, which we call crow's feet.
BTX is also used elsewhere in medicine. In the case of excessive sweating, BTX is injected into the armpits so that the sweat glands no longer produce so much sweat. It is also administered in cases of severe migraine or violent teeth grinding, which are then not aesthetic reasons, but medical, to relieve pain.
Treatment procedure
Botox injections are a non-surgical treatment. In our practice, we use genuine Botox Type A, which is manufactured by Allergan. Allergan is a leading global provider of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic products.
Before the treatment, a personal consultation is arranged. It will be looked at together with you, which and how much a region is affected. If you wish, we will apply a surface anesthetic to the area to be treated so that you do not experience the fine injections as painful. Otherwise, this may not be necessary, as the treatment does not take long and is painless. Dr. Arhold uses a very thin needle to inject small amounts of Botox into the face, targeting specific muscles to temporarily reduce or eliminate wrinkles. This may produce a slight burning sensation, but it disappears within seconds. The good thing about this treatment is, you are immediately fit for society again. After 2 weeks, we will have a follow-up appointment to determine if we have achieved a nice, even result and administer some BTX again if needed.
Treatment areas:
- Forehead
- Frown lines (glabella)
- Crow's feet
- Chin, mouth region
- Eyebrow lift
- Face narrowing
- Smoking wrinkles
- Armpits
Effect
Normally, the treatment effect is already visible after 48-72 hours, with the maximum effect properly unfolding after 1-2 weeks. In rare cases, the treatment shows its effect later.
The norm shows that the blockade at the transmission site between nerve and muscle usually lasts 4 - 6 months. By then, the changes caused by BTX have regressed. The wrinkle-smoothing result of the injection remains for a correspondingly long time. If desired, the treatment can be repeated. In the case of continuous treatment, the time interval can be extended, as the muscles gradually relax more and more.
